The amethyst ore block itself (rather than its amethyst drops) can be obtained by mining it with a diamond pickaxe, emerald pickaxe or above with the Silk Touch enchantment. When mined without Silk Touch, amethyst ore drops a single amethyst. The maximum amount of amethysts dropped can be increased with Fortune.
Amethyst ore can generate in the Overworld in the form of amethyst geodes. Amethyst geodes generate between Y levels 8 to 24.
Amethyst ore can also generate in the Mining Paradise in the form of ore features. Amethyst ore attempts to generate 4 times per chunk in features of 1-4 ore, between Y levels 24 and 56.
